Assistant Controller
Vander Haag’s has an opportunity to join our corporate accounting team! We are currently seeking an Assistant Controller that will be based out of our Spencer, IA, location.
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for overseeing Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, along with auditing GL accounts and preparing journal entries.
General Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supports the Controller with establishing and maintaining internal controls.
- Performs accounting functions such as AP, AR, and GL.
- Oversees accounts receivable, accounts payable activities.
- Performs audits on purchase orders, invoices, and general ledger accounts.
- Assists Controller and investigates all issues for AR and AP.
- Provides monthly, quarterly, and year-end analyses.
- Participates in preparation for the annual audit.
- Coordinates and assists with the budget process.
- Prepares and consolidates financial statements.
Education and/or Experience: A minimum of a two-year degree in accounting or business-related field is required. Prior accounting work experience and/or formal training in accounting practices is preferred. MS Excel experience is a must.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel.
- Demonstrates an understanding of data analysis and forecasting.
- Well organized with ability to prioritize.
- High level of attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Thorough knowledge of accounting and financial processes.
Travel: This position is based in our Spencer, IA, office. Regular overnight travel is not required for this position.
Hours: Hours are generally 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday with some schedule flexibility.. No weekends or holidays required!
